Living like an athlete series: cheat meal 2/2

In the first article Living like an athlete: Cheat Meal we talked about what cheat meal is and what are our ambassador’s favorite ones.

This time we will dig a bit deeper and discover why cheat meals aren’t always the best idea and what are some of the healthiest versions to eat instead.

A cheat meal can bring a lot of problems to an athlete. Not only do they encourage athletes to fill themselves with large amounts of unhealthy food and potentially undo all the progress they have made with their healthy eating, but it can also encourage a binge/restrict mindset, which can be harmful for the health.

Those are the reason why many athletes skip the cheat meals and choose the healthier versions of them.

For many athletes’ cheat meals means - burgers and fries.

That’s why we prepared for you healthier versions of these two cheat meals that everybody loves and can be easily prepared with our Gorenje appliances.

·         180 gr of grated zucchini

·         450gr lean ground turkey

·         1/4 cup seasoned whole wheat or gluten-free breadcrumbs

·         1 clove garlic - grated

·         1 tbsp grated red onion

·         1 tsp kosher salt and fresh pepper

·         oil spray

1.      Squeeze all the moisture from the zucchini with paper towels. In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, zucchini, breadcrumbs, garlic, onion, salt and pepper. Make 5 equal patties,  not too thick so they cook in the center.

2.      Clean grill well before cooking and spray with oil spray to prevent sticking. Cook the burgers on medium heat about 5 minutes on each side, or until no longer pink in the center.

·         1 medium sweet potato, (about 6 ounces) peeled

·         1 teaspoon olive oil

·         1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

·         1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

·         1/4 teaspoon ground chipotle chile powder

·         olive oil spray

1.      Preheat oven to 220 C.

2.      In a medium bowl, toss sweet potatoes with olive oil, salt, garlic powder and chipotle chile powder.

3.      Spread potatoes on a baking sheet. Avoid crowding so potatoes get crisp.

Bake 15 minutes. Turn and bake an additional 10-15 minutes.
Ovens may vary so keep an eye on them and be sure to cut all the potatoes the same size to ensure even cooking.
