Slovenian handball players are European champions!

SLOVENIA won MEN'S 20 EHF EURO at home.

Celje hosted the final tournament of Men`s 20 EHF EURO 2018 which was played from 19 to 29 July 2018 in Slovenia. It ended with Slovenian team defeating France, the Men's 18 EHF EURO 2016 champions as well as the gold medallists of the Men's 19 World Championship last year.

The match was better started by the French, who quickly gained the advantage of four goals, but the host nation Slovenia turned around a one-goal half-time deficit in front of 5,000 spectators in the Zlatorog Hall in Celje. In the second part, Slovenians were already leading for two goals, but the French with a partial result of 4: 0 woken up concerns in the Slovenian camp. The three successful attacks by the Slovenian national team ensured tense ending in which they showed more concentration, courage and strength, and in the end deservedly won the title of European champions.

Grega Ocvirk with eleven goals was the most effective in the Slovenian team, with six goals scored by Kristjan Horžen and Marko Kotar.

Boys selected by Saša Praprotnik, won six times in this championship (with the Norwegian, Israel, Serbia, Iceland and Portugal defeated the French), they lost only once against the bronze Germans. They were second in 2002, and this year they finally won in their second finale in full hall in Celje.
